Specializing in Domain Aquisition

Domain Name Registration Search

In general, domain expiry and deletion cycle is a different process with different registrars and domain name registers. It is a well known fact that a number of registrars enter into partnership with different domain auctioning services. Before a domain name expires, the registrars will keep it in an expired status for 35 days.

Under the usual circumstances, the domain that expires will not be visible in a WHOIS database, as the registrars will add an extra year to the registration. If you want to check whether the domain in question has expired or not, just make a search in the domain name server’s database. In the last stages of expiration, the registrars will place the domain in a pre-release section. On the 36th day, the domain auctioning service firm will start auctioning off the domains, if there are any backorders pending before the service.

Let us say that there are backordering orders for a domain. Then, the said domain will fall in the normal process of domain expiry cycle. There is a fierce competition among thousands of expired domain traders to catch the most feasible domains.

Anyone know about domain name registration in Australia?
    Can you recommend the website?
I searched and found crazydomain, godomain, australiadomains and domainregistration. I don’t know which one is the best? Any recommend?

    Thank you

    • ANSWER:
The domain registrar can depend on the actual domain you are trying to register. For example – all “.com.au” domains have to go through melbourneit (to start with) as they are the primary domain holder for the .com.au domain.

If you’re after .com.au then contact melbourneit first. You can then transfer your domain elsewhere for hosting purposes.

If you’re after anything else – you can pretty much go for wherever is cheapest.

Be aware that some registrars are better than others at keeping your private information safe…

  4. QUESTION:

  5. QUESTION:
where can I find the best (cheap) domain name registration only or domain name + hosting?
OK. I don’t have a lot of money (right now and plus I’m outside US) to purchase the usual price for a domain name. So can someone please direct me to somewhere that is reliable. It is for my portfolio website and I need to get it back up. I already have a reliable hosting company that I’ve been using for almost a year or so now but they have stopped taking co.cc domains.

I will take it under consideration if a really good domain name+hosting is suggested. . I just don’t like my information floating every which way over the internet.

For those of you who suggest domain and hosting, the hosting needs to be able to accommodate my wordpress blog(possible installation via fantastico).

I’ve been searching around on my own and kept running into issues with who is offering it. the place, although offering the domain for a cheap price were look shoddy.

Sorry this is so long. Just didn’t want to forget anything.
Hope I have provided sufficient information. Feel free to contact me for more info.

    • ANSWER:
I followed the advice on a blog called internetbiztutor@blogspot.com (Lesson 2) and paid around US for a dot com domain from GoDaddy (after a discount of 35%). As for the hosting package, I also followed its advice. It’s one of the cheapest hosting package that I managed to find after using the recommended discount code of “Valuediscount25″.

Fyi, one thing that I really like about Hostgator is their Live Chat support which I feel is very important, especially since I am quite new to hosting a domain. I tried asking them for help twice and they helped me almost immediately.

  6. QUESTION:

  7. QUESTION:
How can NAME.COM LLC be stopped from stealing unique domain names?
I recently used name.com to search for the registration status for a unique domain name that I wanted to register. Two days later name.com is now the registrant of that domain name. I have searched for other instances of this and it seems that name.com has made this a profitable regular practice.

    • ANSWER:
You have no right to blame them, my friend. Because in the internet world, domain names are sold like hot cakes.

Once you like a name which is available by your luck, you have to register it there and then.

      Good luck next time.

  8. QUESTION:
If I want to do a search of someone’s name to find out if they own a domain name?
Is there a website that would allow me to do a search for all domains owned by any individual or company? Not Whois! I already know about Whois, but that website can only tell you who the owner is if you know the domain name. That is not what I want.

I want to find out how many domains someone has and what they are called. Where can I do that? I realize there is such a thing as private registration, but I would be trying to find out the domains that are public.

    • ANSWER:
that’s not possible because theirs many different people who provide domain names and not everyone is gonna give peoples info away to a whois like website

  9. QUESTION:
    Buying a Domain Name?
I’m looking into buying a domain name for myself, but I’ve never done it before and need to be guided through the process. I don’t need hosting, because it will be a very small website, and I’ll be hosting it myself.

I’ve been looking on network solutions. When I click on advance I get hit with all these options.

    1. Pubilc v. Private Registration
    2. Get e-mail for your domain registration
    3. Submit site to major search engines

What is Public v. Private Registration?

Isn’t the e-mail handled on the server?

If I want people to be able to find my site on Google, should I submit my site to major search engines?

Also, does anyone know of a good, cheap, ad-free web hosting service that supports ASP.Net and FTP accounts? I probably won’t need much bandwidth. SQL Server support would be nice too.

    • ANSWER:
You can register a domain name from lots of places on the internet. Just google register domain name. Usually it costs around 10 dollars per year to have a domain name. If you go to my source link they have a whole guide on how to build and promote a website including how to get a domian name.

  10. QUESTION:
How much should I offer for a domain name that I want?
I’m thinking semi-seriously about starting a business online (partnering with a local retail store) After thinking about what to call the online business for a while, I came up with a name, and when I checked the domain registration, I found that it was already taken. However, the website there is an unused blog without any posts at all. As a result, the website doesn’t already get any traffic or show up on Google searches for the name.

I pinged the owner of the registration to see if she’d be open to selling it, and she said she is and that I should make her an offer.

The problem is, I have no idea how much to start with. 0? 0? 00? I don’t want to start so low that she doesn’t take me seriously, but I also don’t want to start so high that I could have offered much less.

    Godaddy hosting and domain registration?
I recently bought GoDaddy Hosting and whilst setting it up it cam up with register a domain name for only £1.27* so I did do, the domain shows up in my hosting options etc… but when I type it in to the address bar it says domain not found, and when I search whois it says its not registered, so i’m currently confused on what has happended… any help as to what has happened to my domain would be great

  12. QUESTION:
Shouldn’t there be some sort of regulation over domain name resellers?
I get so sick of dealing with this stuff. How can these people have the nerve to ask 0+ for something that cost them – to register.
It just kills me that i get clients that have certain domain names in mind, i search for the domains and find they have been registered, but the site is just some generic page with a big “This domain is for sale.” When i tell the client how much it costs, it might seem like i am trying to jack the price up on them.
I had one client that was dead set on the domain name, so i purchased it for 0 and then had to renew the registration 3 months after the purchase.
I am very reasonable on my pricing when it comes to design, i dont pump the price of the registration or hosting up. How do i tell clients that the site name they want, which should cost – to register for a year, costs 10-20x’s more.

I know i could appeal to the ICANN to try to get the domain, but the process would take too long.
mike, that is true to an extent, but if thats acceptable behavior, then why would ICANN take domains away from people so it can be used for a legitimate business?
They may have registered it and held the registration for some time, but they do not own anything. The government owns it. We are basically leasing it

  13. QUESTION:
Domain names for Website offer Website related services ???
My recently near-finished website offers all-inclusive website related services i.e.

    >> from designing website to optimising images;
    >> from domain name registration to arranging web hosting;from >> from taking care of browser compatibility (so the website designed could be viewed equally well, regardless of browser or screen resolution) to arranging hit counter
    >> from setting keyword & description to submitting the finished website to search engine
    >> from arranging POP3 e-mail to having Contact form with all the necessary validation set, etc.

It offers Services as listed on my website here:

    http://members.lycos.co.uk/darsh25/personal_website/services.php

I wonder if anyone around could therefore give me any recommendation or any idea about the “domain name” I should have for my own website ???

Some I could think of includes:

    Any further ideas ???

    • ANSWER:
This sounds quite harsh, but I’d perhaps re-think your design and layout. I’ve recently been hunting high and low for a web designer, hosting domain names etc and have been extremely put off by bad layout.

The fact that you’ve got a free website, with loads of banners and adverts would make me think that you’re a part-timer, who would take the money and not do the job.

The design of your website isn’t easy to navigate, the flash image is awful on the eyes. I wouldn’t let you design my website incase I got the same thing.

      Just a few suggestions:

      * Make all the colours compliment each other- they clash at the minute
      * Improve your own layout
      * Include a portfolio
      * Get yourself onto a paid website to prove that you take business seriously.

I know that what I’ve said does sound quite nasty, but if you don’t present your own business well then people won’t trust you with theirs. Take a look at your competition.

  14. QUESTION:
How do you search the WhoIs Database?
I am trying to figure out how to research the WhoIs database to see who how many domain names, and which ones, to which a person or entity is registered?

For example, I’m trying to figure out how many domain names are registered to John Doe. I’d like access to the WhoIs database so I can search for all sites that have the registrant John Doe and have a list returned to me.

I know I can enter a website, like www.OneMonthFree.com, into a domain registration firm like GoDaddy and use their WhoIs database to find out the registrant of a specific domain, but there are some 59 million .com sites and I really don’t have that much time. I want to reverse that process and research on name or address or phone number or other searchable field.

When it comes to Domain Registration?
Where can I find someone reputable to register my domain with, at low cost, and no add on packaging?

Lets say, I want to get a domain name, and only that….for low cost and from a respected company. Where would I go?

I’ve searched the web many times, and I cannot seem to find anyone who can provide for me, a domain name that has full DNS control, affordable yearly rates, no add on products, and reputability.

Can someone tell me where to go???

P.S. Register.com and Go Daddy aren’t eligible answers, because Go daddy requires for one to have a job, and Register isn’t really in my price range yet.

  20. QUESTION:
what is the difference between virtual and dedicated servers?
i have started my new business of domain name registration and hosting as a reseller. i went to google.com and searched for hosting companies but every hosting company have two types of hosting virtual and dedicated. what is better for me and why?

    • ANSWER:
It depends what you expect your traffic to be.

A virtual server is individual server space on a shared box, but it appears like it’s your own server. There could be hundreds of websites hosted on that server.

A dedicated server is a single box for you.

  21. QUESTION:
Domain name I would like to register is “parked” by cenal.com – how long will they keep it?
I would like to register a domain name that has been parked by a Hong Kong company cenal.com.

This domain name was used by a Canadian company that has been out of business for a few years (according to my internet research). This Canadian business had the domain for many years, then recently let it expire. I was watching it as it expired and tried to register it on the correct date, but it was apparently snatched up by someone associated with “cenal.com” according to the whois information. This is apparently a Hong Kong based domain parking business.

6+ months after the domain was snatched up and parked, it still only has a very generic parking page with no text and a blank search box.

Any educated guesses as to how long this cenal.com will continue to renew this domain name? I believe it has always been a fairly low traffic domain name, and is not a very in demand word combination. I assume it was only parked because it had been registered and used for so long by the original Canadian business.

I am not able to find any information on cenal.com and don’t know much about domain parkers in general. Can I expect that they are only keeping the domain for one year to see if there are any offers to buy it? (not likely, and it is not worth it to me to pay much more than the registration fee)

Here’s some extra details on the parker from the whois info. Not sure if this would help, but maybe someone else has experience with this parker:
    Registrant:
    cenal.com ltd
    cenal com (sysop@cenal.com)
    Phone: +.85230101205
    Fax:
    12 Harcourt Road
    Hong Kong, 3705
    HK

    Name Servers:
    ns2.parkingspa.com
    ns1.parkingspa.com

    Registrar: BLACK ICE DOMAINS, INC

    Thanks for any info!

    THanks for

    • ANSWER:
Well generally speaking there will be a hold for about a month and a half after expiration before it can be registered.

The best way to make sure you do get it is to Backorder the domain at http://www.newinternetdomains.com it is just a little bit more than for the first year, but renewals are cheap again. This will help ensure you do get the domain the second it becomes available!

    >> Keyword & Description Setup (is it meta-tag & description ???)
    >> Search Engine Registration
    >> Search Engine Optimisation
    >> Front-page extention

Can anyone enlighten or recommend me??

    • ANSWER:
      Sounds like you got everything.

  24. QUESTION:
How can you find out what domains an individual owns?
I own a few domain names, all through Yahoo!, and 2 of them are set to private registration… however, an individual (who is a terrible person) recently found one of the domains that is private and won’t leave me alone. I can’t figure out how they found me. Any ideas on how I can search for domain name owners? I tried whois.com and couldn’t find a way.

  25. QUESTION:
how can i get my domain name on google.com?
i fpund the registration page but it ws asking me to pay every time someone clicks on to it, im trying to get it on all the search engines like google and yahoo aol. etc,…..can someone explain to me the process,.. thanks

    • ANSWER:
You don’t have to do anything. Google, Yahoo, etc “crawl” the internet looking for new and updated content. Once you put your content out there, they’ll find it. If you want to speed things along (get them to crawl your site sooner), you can submit a link to your site to Google. It’s still up to them when they crawl your site, but it doesn’t hurt to submit (only do it once, though).

Can anyone explain to me how every domain name I plug into one of these online search engine / registration sites is taken ???
I mean I’ve tried some ridiculous stuff and it keeps saying they are taken, but I can BUY the domain from the current owner.
Are the sites logging the domain names I’m interested in, telling me they are taken, and then trying to gouge me ?
I’ve even tried my own personal name and they say it’s taken…How the heck is that possible ???
A Google search in most cases finds no results for up and running websites with my three top desired domain names, so if there’s no web site, how is the domain taken ??

UUUHHHHGGGG!!!!!! Someone please shed some light on this plz…
I posted this question after burning half a day on several sites dedicated to selling domain’s. Each on was the same, they ask you to list the domains you want, and then “search” to see if the names are taken. Each time, no matter how silly the domain I requested, the result was the same. Name already taken, but feel free to “purchase” it from the current owner, at of course three or four times the price, and half the typical two year registration term. Now am I crazy, or is this a total scam ??
Neither of these answers, albeit appreciated, addressed my question. Guess I’ll put it to a vote…

    • ANSWER:
Finding an available domain name these days takes some real creativity. You say you have three desired names,, well thats not enough.

You might try some of the registration sites that will give alternative names using the three you would like!
Like http://aitdomains.com/ they will return a list of options for you to consider.

You can also add more to the front or back — say you wanted something like
jetsales.com — you will never get it but you could get
jetsalesworld.com (just added a the name world at the back)
      or
yourjetsales.com (just added your in front)

Come on don’t get stuck — there are names available! AND
change the site your using to check these with – yes there are some sites that record your checks!

  27. QUESTION:
English natives! Does this texts need to be edited before publishing online? Thanks in advance?
    Hi all,
I want to set these texts as the title and description of my website pages for search engines. I don’t want to change them if they don’t include any grammatical errors. The keywords which are used are very very important to me, because people use them for finding the websites like mine. So I more prefer not to change them. I know using some of them is not correct from view point of “technical phrases”, such as “domain name generator”. But I want to use them because some beginners use them on the web. Just if there are any unusual sentences which seem wrong help me modify. Please take into consideration I have limitation in using the number of words! So don’t try to tell a story!

Hope my text doesn’t need any major changes. Thank you in advance!

    • ANSWER:
“Cheapest Domain Registrar – Get your url like www.name.com”

i would change that to “Get a URL like www.name.com.”

also, the “Free” in the second paragraph under the descriptions should be lower-case – “free,” since it’s not a name of something, nor is it a proper noun.

      other than that, it’s fine.

One area that does not seem to be covered is the design of web sites. The classes listed teach you about the tools of the trade, It would be like learning to paint by studying about the different types of paints and brushes.

Maybe you already had some graphics design classes or have natural talent, but if you don’t learn some principles of design you just become a web site hack and use templates and steal ideas (called “heavy lifting”) from real designers.

Are you aware that there are some classes available on the web? Harvard has put the video of some of their classes online.

I liked Hanspeter Pfister class on Visualization. Video from the class was available on i-tunes for free, but I could not find the link.
      CSCI E-64 Visualization ,

      http://www.extension.harvard.edu/courses/22872.jsp

Did find this one, but have not watched it.
Harvard Extension School’s Computer Science E-75: Building Dynamic Websites

      http://itunes.apple.com/podcast/harvard-extension-schools/id273114068

One suggestion. Start creating a portfolio of your work. Save copies of your school work and as you skill improve look back and see what you could do to improve them and consider updating them. Future employer will be interested in seeing your work.

Should also be aware that web design is a changing field and the tools you learn now might be consider out of date in five years. Another reason for focusing more on what your should design rather on just learning the tools to create the design.

  32. QUESTION:
why all these prices on GoDaddy.com ?
I am on GoDaddy.com registration page for renting a domain name.
I searched for a domain name on GoDaddy.com and I found the name I want, I continued the steps till I reached a page says “Activate Your Domain” and they say “How many email address do you want? 5 emails, 2 GB storage .49 / mo 10 emails, unlimited storatge .99 / mo
and “Choose Hosting. Web Hosting Economy….. .99 mo
    I mean, why all that?
Should I pay for domain name and webspace only / month?
    why all these prices?

    • ANSWER:
Some ‘packages’ have ‘headline’ prices to tempt you in and then require you to select from a series of ‘options’ that are not really ‘optional’ since the ‘advertised’ minimum gives you essentially nothing (see, for example, SKY TV :-) )

This is ‘marketing tactic’ is so well know it has it’s own name (see ‘bait and switch’ ….)

Do Yahoo Steal Your Ideas Like Domain Names etc?
I think Yahoo has a special query alogrithem that picks up the good ideas and steal them. How? for example buy domains on yahoo you put in their query box that xyz.com for searching if it is available or not then you see it is searching and then if the domain you want is extraordinary or can be sold with high price Yahoo right away keep that and give message, sorry xyz.com is not available but you can get xyz.net.those domains are kept under other people names like registered in arizona or california registration private so iccan or www or ftc will not cause any problems.later the same domains sold millions of dollar worth.Yahoo can you tell what is really going on ——-
i know lot of fake yahoo fake top answerers will have negative comments on my questions ? thats why yahoos ceo is getting fired soon—-

    • ANSWER:
Well, before accusing someone (or an entire corporation), you
should present several proofs–able to sustain your, let’s say,
“suspicions”. Do you have at least one such valid proof? And
even if you would have it, another question arises: is this kind
of (mal)practice, illegal? I am not an laws expert.

Nevertheless, I will try to give an (indirect) answer to your
question. Please click on this link:

      http://www.dailydomainer.com/200775-domain-tasting-monitoring-searches.html

You will discover that there are other people who have the
same “worry”, as you do. If you want, you can contact them.

In what concerns me, there is another thing which I find quite
      worrying.
According to “McAfee site advisor”, Yahoo! seems to be one of
the least safe (major) search engine, on the net. Please take a
      look at their webpage: http://www.siteadvisor.com/studies/search_safety_may2007

Otherwise, Yahoo! Answers is an online community in which
participants ask and answer questions on a wide range of
topics, from the serious, to the delightfully trivial. I’m trying to
conduct myself with integrity, decency, and respect, when I
answer to others questions. I am on the part of the Truth and
not on the part of someone else–be it Yahoo!, or Dalai Lama!
And I think that the majority of the answerers have the same
      conception.

  35. QUESTION:
Where can you make a free web page and register for free?
I am looking for a place to get a domain name. I want to find a domain that does not cost to create a web page. I have searched and searched and still none found. All the ones say free but the catch is you have to pay a monthly or yearly registration fee. I am looking for free registration.

    • ANSWER:
Registering a domain name requires a fee. In order for a company to give out free domains, they would need to pay a fee for each domain, and they have to renew each domain per year, which again means more fees. This would literally cost millions in order for a company to do this – millions that they don’t have.

Don’t forget that you will also have to fill out your personal information as well. And anyone can then find your personal information through a whois database by searching your domain name. Your email address. Your phone number. Your address. Everything will be on public record.

Because of these two reasons, there is no such thing as a site that just gives away free domains.

  36. QUESTION:
Could someone who speaks Englisg as their first language tell me if this text needs to be edited? Thx?
To obtain a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. Take into consideration that you cannot buy a domain for life. You get it for a period of one to ten years. If you fail to renew the domain name at the end of its term, the registration of the domain will be revoked and the domain name may be acquired by another party.

Buying a domain name is one of the easiest tasks. To purchase a domain name, take the following steps:

1- Refer to the website of an authorized registrar.

2- Use the registrar’s online search function to search to see if your desired domain name is taken.

3- If your domain name is available, you can then proceed to the next step to complete the registration form and pay by credit card.

    • ANSWER:
No, not a single word spelled wrong!

  37. QUESTION:
can subscription services be sent to collection agencies?
I have a domain name that I bought a year of registration. I canceled my credit card and had no plans to renew the domain after the year was up. The registrar 1and1.com, did not expire the domain, sent the bill to collections, and now I’m getting harrassed by NCO financial. Doing a search for “1and1 nco” I find they do this a lot.

I always thought that subscriptions such as magazines, clubs, etc.. that I pay for in advance cannot go to collections.

how can I fight the .95 collection agency charge?

    • ANSWER:
Send them a demand to validate letter, especially if you are within 30 days of their initial contact. NCO will usually fold like a cheap lawn chair with a DV, and it would be extremely funny to rack up some FDCPA violations on a .95 bill.

  39. QUESTION:
How much would it cost to have a web designer build this site?
Basic concept of site: baby name site. Parents can look up their favorite names, buy a baby name book, seek baby name consulting services, etc.
What I already have: I already have my site mapped out. I literally have an exact template laid out of precisely what I want in terms of a layout. I also have all of my content written. I don’t want a web designer to make everything for me. It’s more like, I already know what I want, and I want somebody to put my ideas into action. Hosting, domain registration, and ecommerce solutions by GoDaddy.
    Products/services of the site:
    - A book, which will be available for purchase at another website via a link on my site
    - Consulting, which is available for purchase on my site.
    - Name database, which is the most complicated service. Paying members can search for names in the database, or manually browse alphabetically or by popularity. The content isn’t made up yet.
    Other features of the site:
    - A blog (I can have this onsite, or link to an outside blogging site)
    - A page to subscribe to a free e-newsletter
    - An advice column
    - Name of the Week
    - These would require updating quite often (weekly) but if it’s just a content or even an HTML update, I could do it. I don’t need a designer to be doing maintenance for me every week.
Overall I plan for it to be between 20 to 30 pages (I counted 22). I have already started designing the page, but I don’t think I have the skills to do it all. I was looking up designers near me and they want 00 for a 4 page, static, templated page. To me, what I want is not worth that much because I have already designed my own layout of what I want, provided my own content and images, etc, I just want somebody to make it. I don’t have a lot of money to spend on graphic design. So, how much should I be looking to spend on something like this? And please don’t say ‘it depends’ because I just spent this whole thing being very specific on what I want.

    • ANSWER:
Your site does not present anything complex: it is a small e-commerce.
I usually offer these for around 1200$, less if the client provides the “images” for the site (with text contents), which is your case.
It seems to me that you just want a “coder” to make it work.
I could do it quite quickly.
You could also present your request with vWorkers.com and get quotes from several coders.
Expect offers from 2-300$ (which you will loose because the coders will not supply) up to 5-6000$ (which is over the top, because it is offered by firms who will simply sub-contract to other coders).
As I said, the average “reasonnable” price would be around 1000-1500$.
However, your decision of using GoDaddy prevents me from offering my services: in NO circumstances will I provide any kind of service on any godaddy server. [full stop] (Several of my clients have had too many problems with them, and I just had great difficulties to cancel an order for 44 domains, lossing 400$ in the exercise!)
I strongly recommend you leave GDD asap… (check http://www.nodaddy.com)

    2. Registration lenght (1 year, 2yrs, 3yrs, 4yrs, 5yrs)
    3. Organization
    4. ID Number

    8. MSN/Skype
    9. Phone
    10. Fax Number

    17. Country (drop down list)
    18. Account Password
    19. Confirm Password
    20. Security check (picture with space to cofirm)

    This section should contain
    - selected package cost
    - registration length cost
    - total cost from adding the above

Please assist with the PHP coding and validation. I know its too much… I promise I will save your life with JAVA or something…

    • ANSWER:
Need more info transmit to what? a WSDL a MySQL db?
But I will give it a stab:
First off the page which is collecting the data doesnt need any php (unless you want to pull down some session variables for error messaging or something) Just and HTML form tag with a post to a php file on submit.

That php file will do the processing so each HTML input item will be posted to the php file with a variable name of $_POST(‘XXX’) where XXX corresponds to the HTML input elements name value.

From there you will process those variables to whatever you want.

For security (hopefully your running appache) Just install this

      http://www.howtoforge.com/apache_mod_security

That should take care of any xss or sql injection.

Since I cant respond feel free to email me at erato67@yahoo.com I could always use some help on JAVA :)

They are exploiting children under the age of 18 for dating all around the world, they are phishing accounts, stealing identities, using Copyrighted material such as trademarks logos pictures etc. Business name without the MySpace profile owner’s permission.

    • ANSWER:
To be frank, I’m not sure there’s much you can do unless he is posting illegal material (e.g., child pornography). Unfortunately, the situation you describe is one of the dangers of posting personal information online on social websites such as Myspace and Facebook.

To the extent that the website is misappropriating copyrighted material, then the copyright owner can submit a DMCA takedown notice to have the infringing material removed. For example, your daughter may own the copyright to photographs that were copied onto the website.

For more information on the DMCA, consult the link below.

      http://www.chillingeffects.org/dmca512/faq.cgi

I also strongly suggest you consult an attorney who has expertise in Internet law and especially privacy issues with regards to Internet law. I’m not sure they can help, but it’s worth a try. This is still a very new area of law, so these types of issues have no easy answers.

Also, there may be privacy services available that remove private information from websites, search engines, and the like.

  45. QUESTION:
how do I copy a user profile in Windows XP?
Over the past few weeks, many users at my workplace could not get any access to their folders on the file server in the network.

The file server runs on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and the workstations run a series of Windows XP Professional and some with Windows 7 Home Premium edition. I have at least two users running Windows XP Professional. The other users at my workplace can get access to those shares – even though that proper rights are achieved. But for the two users in question, they could not get access.

The error message looks like this:

“xxxxxxx is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Access is denied.”

The two users could not access to the Search&Registration folders along with their
respective scans folders located down at SVR01 (that’s what the file server is named as). The two users in question is
running Windows XP professional SP2. A similiar case happens when I try to map the drives as well. It too suffered the same problem.

There is no centralized administration at my workplace’s network setup (i.e. Domain controller), and the file server is assigned a static IP address.

The guest account is enabled for both of the machines. I’ve also
tried disabling and re-enabling the “File and Printer Sharing” feature for both
those machines. That did not work.

I’ve tried accessing the same shares using an administrator
account (i.e. ABCadmin) located locally on the machines and that enabled me to gain access to those shares.

I also tried to install the service pack for Windows XP (SP3) for one of the two problem machines. That did not work.

My indication is that their “user profiles” have been corrupted and that would be my
only hope. I would probably think that copying the user profile of ABCadmin (for example) and renaming the account of the copied profile will probably do the trick.

    Any suggestions?
well patching is probably to blame in my own case. However, the file server was running continuously for the past while and it wasn’t restarted.

However, my only concern is the users who access that server remotely at their workstations. They will most likely lose their work in the progress should I restart the server.

My only hope is try to copy/re-build the user profile. Do you have any other suggestions?

    • ANSWER:
To recreate a profile in XP (and in W7) is a relatively straightforward process. Within the user’s profile copy Desktop, Favorites, My Documents, My Music, etc. to C:Temp. Once all of the pertinent data has been backed up (don’t forget Outlook .pst files and Mozilla profiles) simply delete the user from Documents and Settings… or, in W7 it will be the user name within C:Users.

After a reboot the user logs in and his (her) profile will be recreated.

To be honest, your description sounds a lot like the server was recently patched and one of the patches is blocking these requests for access, though.

    CASE STUDIE

    1. SCHOOL LIBRARY
A school wants to create an information system for its three libraries namely Duncan House, Dockland and Stratford. Each library has a number of employees, one who is designated as the manager of the library and is responsible for supervising employees and the general day-to-day management of the library. Each library stores items, which comprises of a number of books and DVDs.

A student must register to become a member of a library before they are allowed to borrow any item, but thereafter can borrow items from any other library. To register, staff collects the prospective member’s personal details, verify them and confirm their registration. Books are stored on shelves and DVDs are stored in a number of racks in the centre of the library. To borrow books, staff verifies the member’s details and check if they have unpaid fines from the members records before given the book out.

A library stocks a number of copies of each book title and each DVD. Details of book publishers are maintained but not DVD publishers. To find an item, members conduct search based on the book/DVD title, the author/artist’s name, the category of the book/DVD, or the publisher’s name.

    Task 1 (use case modelling)
    Define and:
•Work out the actors, system boundary, use cases and use cases descriptions in the case..
•Produce high level and second level use case diagrams for the case study selected.
•The use case diagrams must have <> and <>
•The use case specification (must include both basic and alternative courses)

    Task 2 (Class modelling):
Use the use-case model that you developed in task 1 to generate class diagram for the case study. This will include
•The list of classes in the problem domain and attributes that are relevant to the use case
•All possible class (objects) and their roles
•Attributes and operations for each class
•All static associations between classes, and their cardinalities

    Task 3 (Sequence diagram modelling):

From the use case model and class diagram, finally, generate:
1.A sequence diagram for two of the use cases.
    2.These must define:
1.all instance objects in the sequence diagram
2.all messages for the use case, and
3.the list of operations from the use case specification

Task 4 (generation of program code):

From the use case model and class and sequence diagram generate:
3.Program code for each of the classes.
4.Using the use case and sequence diagram incorporate methods etc

Note the program can be in either VB or Java but they should not be working codes. All diagrams must be generated using a Case Tools such as Rational Rose or Star UML.

  47. QUESTION:
Trademark question regarding definition of “Actually using mark in commerce now”?
The trademark registration form asks if I am “actually using the mark in commerce now”.
Since I am applying for a servicemark, my understanding is that the service is “in commerce now” when it is advertised.
BUT one question, is a service considered “advertised” when it is just offered on a public site or do you have to do active advertising such as giving out flyers or TV ads etc.
Also, is listing the site on a search engine like yahoo considered “advertising”?

Here are some more details in case you need them. The company name is something like companyname, llc and the domain is companyname.com, and I want to trademark “companyname”.
The service is an online software listing database, the I will be charging a monthly subscription to software companies to link to their sites.
The servicemark will be displayed at the top of each page (in the form of a logo).
I have an order form for software vendors to sign up for my subscription service on the site. (that is what I am directly “selling”).
On the site there will be links my vendors sites (who are paying a monhtly subscription to be listed), which consumers will buy directly from them by clicking the links. I do not yet have any vendors who have actually subscribed/purchased the service as of yet.
